What has happened to the Montreal Forum? ›

The Forum was built by the Canadian Arena Company in 159 days. Today most of the Forum building is now a multiplex cinema known as Cineplex Cinemas Forum operated by Cineplex Entertainment. Additionally, a large portion of the building's upper floors are used as campus expansion for Dawson College.

The Montréal Forum is a large, indoor venue for professional ice hockey. It is located at the corner of Sainte-Catherine and Atwater streets in the city of Montréal. The formal recognition consists of the building on its legal property.

Being the oldest arena in Montreal, the Verdun Auditorium has been the pride and joy of Verdun's residents for almost a century already.

In 1996, the Forum was gutted and many of its parts were auctioned off. After bidding farewell to the Forum, the Canadiens moved into the Molson Centre (then called the Bell Centre). The storied Forum de Montreal has since been converted to a Cineplex movie theatre and entertainment complex.

The Kia Forum is the former home of the Lakers and Kings and nicknamed the "Fabulous Forum." The arena is now primarily used as a music venue. The renaming comes a few months after the Staples Center was renamed Crypto.com arena in the largest naming rights deal ever, at $700 million over 20 years.

The Expos spent 35 years in Montreal, making the playoffs just once in that time. The franchise left the city on a 23-year playoff drought, and the Expos were averaging under 10,000 fans per game in their final season. The franchised moved to Washington D.C. and relaunched as the Washington Nationals in 2005.

The Montreal studio of BioWare, another EA developer, was merged into Motive in August 2017. A Vancouver branch for Motive was announced in June 2018.

The NHL and the team's demise

After the fire, the Wanderers again appealed for reinforcements, but none were forthcoming. The team defaulted its next two games, against the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto, and then disbanded. The last active Wanderers player was George Geran, who played his last NHL game in 1926.
